Blackhill Woods Teacher Training

We are really excited to bring our Yoga Alliance Teacher Training to Blackhill Woods Retreat Centre in February 2019. This training will run 2 weekends a month for 4 months and also includes a 4-day retreat. On completion of this course, you will be a 200hr Yoga Alliance certified teacher and qualified to teach both vinyasa and hatha yoga worldwide.

Take a journey with us through yoga philosophy, breathwork, postures and relaxation and become a confident, competent and soulful yoga teacher. On this program you will learn the principles and skills to teach breathing techniques (Pranayama), postures (Asana) and relaxation (Yoga Nidra) to individuals and large and small groups. You will become familiar with the anatomy of the body and how it works in yoga. At its heart, this program will uncover why we do yoga. Underpinning it all will be the study of ancient yoga philosophy to enable both teacher and their students to live more soulfully.
The program is very practical in nature. Students will commit to homework and home practice. It is designed to take students on a highly enjoyable and life-affirming journey.
We will have a catch-up weekend in Dublin for students that miss days of the training and there is also the option to make up the missed time yourself by attending studio classes and practicing teaching family and friends. At the end of the course, each student will have the opportunity to teach their first class to our members in Dublin.

Yoga Teacher Training – Modules:

  1. Yoga Philosophy.

This explores the ancient wisdom of Yoga Philosophy and its total relevance to today’s life for yogis and all mankind.

  1. Sequencing a Yoga Class.

This section looks at the different factors influencing movement in asana.

  1. Pranayama, Asana and Yoga Nidra.

These exercises are all dealt with and teased out in great detail. We also explore Workshops in  Yin Yoga, Restorative Yoga, Mindfulness and Meditation.

  1. The Body in Yoga (Anatomy & Physiology).

This examines the body systems and in particular looks at the anatomy and physiology inherent in yoga asana and pranayama

5. Sound Bath Healing

One full day on the course will focus on Sound Bath Healing. A Sound Bath is an immersion in beautiful sounds and vibrations that are healing for your body, mind and spirit.   A Sound Bath is a deeply relaxing, meditative experience which can take you on a journey of deep relaxation, healing and self-discovery. Everything in the Universe, including our body, is composed of vibrations. Every organ and every cell in our body vibrates at a particular frequency. Sound and vibration travels up to five times more effectively through water. As the human body is made up of over 70% water we can understand that sound and vibration can affect us at a cellular level. You will experience the healing power of Tibetan Singing Bowls, Gongs, Shamanic Drums, Koshi chimes and Voice.

6. Teacher Skills

This section looks at the approaches of teachers on how to teach their classes ethically.

The module also includes a Teachers in Training class where each student will teach their first full class to our members once you have successfully completed the course. We hope you decide to take this enjoyable yoga journey with us.

Course Trainers:

Sophia Daly – Founder of HYD & Lead Trainer: 200 Hour Teacher Training

Sophia, originally from Claremorris, Co Mayo, discovered Yoga in 2010 when she started practicing Bikram yoga in Dublin and after many years of practice and researching the market she founded Hot Yoga Studios Dundrum. Sophia initially trained as a yoga teacher in 2012 and then travelled to Koh Phangan, Thailand in 2017 to deepen her knowledge of yoga and mindfulness and expand her practice.

She has attended many workshops and retreats with some of the best international teachers including Josh Summers, Gypsyon, Jacob Manning, Bryce Yoga, Carson Calhoun, Adell Bridges and more.

The style of yoga that she is passionate about teaching is a dynamic hot vinyasa flow with an emphasis on meditation in movement and encouraging students to stay present throughout their practice. Sophia, along with their team of instructors, have built a warm welcoming studio and a wonderful yoga community. Sophia’s aim is to share the many physical and psychological benefits that yoga brings and to spread inspiration for joyful living.

Sophia teaches Asana (postures) practice, Vinyasa Flow, Pranayama (breath work), Yin Yoga and Mindfulness and Meditation on our 200 Hour Teacher Training course.

Dr. Lucy Weir – Philosophy Trainer

Lucy teaches the yoga philosophy module on all of our yoga teacher training courses and has a wealth of knowledge to share. Having started practicing yoga as a (very unhappy) teen in the Highlands of Scotland, Lucy trained with the YTTC (Yoga Therapy and Training Centre) in County Down in 2000-2002. She has done extensive further training, including with Donna Fahri, Christophe Mouze, and Julie Gudmestad, and is currently affiliated to YTI  (Yoga Therapy Ireland). She is also a writer and philosopher and has published work on ideas that changed the course of history, and on what it is to do good. She completed her PhD in Philosophy between 2010 and 2014 in NUIG, Galway and later in UCC, Cork.

She spent a number of years working as a volunteer (VSO) in Sudan, Indonesia and Kenya, followed by 17 years in Erris, in the far west of Mayo. She is now writing a book, and teaches yoga and yoga philosophy, as well as working with people who are deaf and blind, and mothering two teens long distance. As a marathon runner, Lucy recognises herself as having taken an endurance, tough love approach to most things. She is now focused, above all, on compassion and the ecological emergency. Her book will be titled Love is Green.

Esther Moser –  Anatomy & Physiology Trainer.

Esther Moser is a senior Kundalini, Hormone and Trauma Sensitive Yoga teacher with more than 20 years of teaching experience under her belt.  She is a qualifies obstetric nurse and added Biodynamic Psychotherapy and Massage, an NLP Master Practitioner certification, Reflexology and Hypnobirthing into the mix. In 2007 she discovered EFT Tapping, which has become one of the main techniques alongside, Kundalini Yoga, which she uses in her private coaching practice.

Her yoga journey started during her teenage years in England while on holidays; years later, as a stressed-out single mother of a little daughter she discovered Kundalini Yoga and qualified in 1999, after having been a student for many years. Workshops with Gurucharan Singh, Sat Dharam Kaur, Guru Dharam Singh and others followed, as well as Hormone Yoga by Dinah Rodrigues in 2011 and extensive training in Trauma Sensitive Yoga in 2017.

As a qualified Nurse one of her focuses is on physical alignment during postures and movements, however as a coach and psychotherapist her love leans strongly towards the energy medicine approach of yoga: The power of yoga to re-align Body, Mind and Spirit into a state of peace, no matter what stressors may trigger an unwanted or unhelpful response.

Esther will teach introductory segments of Anatomy and Physiology including Energy Medicine, Hormone Yoga, Trauma Sensitive Yoga, Yoga Philosophy and Meditation during the 2018 Claremorris Teacher Training Programme.
